Mixed results in wet Zurich for the men
Das Future Team feiert den zweiten Sieg im neuen Jahr. Niederlage für die 1st XV gegen Rugby Union Zürich.
The first joint away trip of the 1st XV and the Future Team in 2026 ended with mixed results for the two teams. Braving the wet and cold conditions, the 1st XV lost 10-28 to a Zurich side that was very quick to pounce on Basel errors. A missed tackle here, a dropped ball there - Zurich managed to convert these into points. This is not to say Basel were without success though. Daniel Zinsstag and new recruit Matthew Quinn scored tries in each half, while RUZ only scored three tries themselves, meaning they were kept away from the bonus point. Said bonus points could become crucial in the race for a semifinal spot. The next game for the 1st XV is away in Lausanne against Albaladejo on Sunday.
Playing second for a change, the Future Team picked up on the good performance in Lausanne one week earlier. Once again wearing the black and white hoops, the team started really strong with well-deserved scores in the first half. Jafar Ghaffarnejad, Alec Morrison and Max Lauer all crossed the line in the first half, before the forwards' pack got the ball over the line in a maul. Liam Leslie added three out of four conversions before the break. In the second half, fresh legs off the bench meant Grüezi XV count mount a fightback. Yet, Julian Revenstorff added a fifth try for Basel to put the icing on the cake. The final result was a 31-17 victory for the Future Team who are looking forward to host EHL in Basel this coming Saturday, 21 March.

Die erste gemeinsame Auswärtsreise der 1st XV und des Future Teams brachte gemischte Resultate. Im nassen und kalten Zürich verlor die 1st XV der Männer gegen Rugby Union Zürich, das vor allem die Fehler der Basler eiskalt ausnutzte. Verpasste Tackles, verlorene Bälle - gefühlt jeder Fehler kostete Punkte. Basel hatte im Spiel durchaus auch seine Momente, nicht zuletzt dank Versuchen von Daniel Zinsstag und Matthew Quinn. RUZ erzielte selber auch "nur" drei Versuche und somit immerhin keinen Bonuspunkt. Im weiteren Verlauf der Saison könnte dies noch wichtig werden, wenn es um die Plätze in den Halbfinals geht. Das nächste Spiel für die 1st XV steht am Sonntag in Lausanne gegen Albaladejo an.
Für einmal spielte das Future Team nach der 1st XV und konnte gleich an die gute Leistung der Vorwoche in Lausanne anknüpfen. Wiederum in den schwarz-weiss gestreiften Jerseys starteten die Jungs sehr gut, mit Versuchen von Jafar Ghaffarnejad, Alec Morrison und Max Lauer sowie einem vom ganzen Forwards-Pack über die Linie geschobenen Maul. Liam Leslie traf mit drei Erhöhungen zwischen die Stangen. In der zweiten Halbzeit brachte die Grüezi XV frische Kräfte ins Spiel und lancierte eine Aufholjagd. Mit einem fünften Versuch durch Julian Revenstorff brachten die Basler jedoch den Sieg ins Trockene. Zum Ende stand es 31:17 für das Future Team, das sich schon auf den Besuch der EHL aus Lausanne freut, die am 21. März auf der Pruntrutermatte erwartet wird.
