A Northern Lions U19 team made up of almost 100% Basel players faced Nyon U19 on Sunday at Pruntrutermatte. Genuine home matches have become a regular feature for our oldest juniors and they put up a great show against a determined opposition. Patiently stringing together their phases, they took a good lead in the first half with three converted tries. Nyon definitely came to play as well though and scored a try of their own early in the second half to reduce to difference. What followed was a brilliant score from the Lions, involving forwards and backs, hard running, quick running, slick passing and just about everything you would want to see from a rugby team. Unfortunately for our boys though, Nyon had the very last thing to say in this match, breaking the line that one last time to score a try and the subsequent conversion on the stroke of full time. That last conversion brought the scores to 28-28.

The Northern Lions U19 will play on 21 March away against the PAC Genevois (at the Avusy club) and then again on 28 March at Pruntrutermatte in Basel as part of a home triple header. Come down to watch some of the quickest rugby on offer in this country!

Die U19 der Northern Lions bestand an diesem Sonntagnachmittag fast ausschliesslich aus Basler Junioren. Auf der Pruntrutermatte zu spielen ist für diese Jungs eine Ehre, die sie zum Glück immer öfter geniessen dürfen. Der Gegner aus Nyon trat entschlossen auf, doch mit Geduld und Präzision kamen die Lions in der ersten Halbzeit zu drei Versuchen samt Erhöhung. Spätestens nach der Pause hatten auch die Gäste vom Genfersee die lange Anreise verdaut. Sie kamen mit einem Versuch ihrerseits ins Spiel zurück. Was folgte, war ein Meisterstück der Lions, ein Versuch als Resultat der Zusammenarbeit von Forwards und Backs über das ganze Feld hinweg. Das letzte Wort in der Partie gehörte indes Nyon, mit einem Versuch und der Erhöhung zum Ende des Spiels. Mit dieser Erhöhung glich der Kicker der Gäste das Spiel zum 28:28 aus.

Die U19 der Northern Lions spielt am 21. März auswärts gegen PAC Genevois (in Avusy) und schon am 28. März wieder in Basel, auf der Pruntrutermatte. Dann ist ein Triple Header angesagt. Wir freuen uns auf euer zahlreiches Erscheinen schon zum Spiel der U19!
