Men's Head Coach Ali Wotherspoon has a look at the season to come

For the men’s senior teams we’re excited about the second half of the season. We hope to build on the strong performances from 2021, and take a step forward both as a team and in individual player development. It‘s always a long mid-season break and our performances will be reflective on how well we prepare together as a team.

The players have worked hard through a block of position-focussed strength and conditioning. We have then focused our pre-season on our tactical game, with continued focus on rugby skills and conditioning.

As a club we aim to play an attractive, continuity-based game, and a high level of commitment and focus from the players.

The squad is an exciting mix of new players to the game, players rising from the junior section and players who have a played a number of seasons. Both the 1st Team and the Future Teams offer a chance for all players to develop and play at the highest levels.

This half season, we are offering this a full 7’s programme, which compliments the 15’s game, with its open attacking style, skills development opportunities and fitness. There are several tournaments in Switzerland, and hopefully a trip to an international event to look forward to.

We are always open for new or returning players to play with us. Rugby at Basel offers unique opportunities for fun, challenge and to create life-long friendships.

As coaches we want to create an environment and experience where the players want to come back week after week. Through Arno, Beau, Matthias and Luke we have a diverse group of coaches to create that.

Personally, I’m really looking forward to working hard with the players and to see how far we can go!
