Birds Win the NLFB Final!

Der Finaltag der Schweizermeisterschaften sollte den Birds nach langer Zeit endlich wieder einmal ein 15-er Rugby-Spiel ermöglichen. In nervöser Aufregung fuhren die Spieler*innen nach Yverdon-les-Bains. Vor dem Spiel stimmte sich das Team mit dem NLFA-Final der Luzern Dangels vs. Nyon Monthey Mermigans ein.
Es warteten heisse Temperaturen und ein junges fittes Team aus dem Jura auf die Birds. Nach dem Anpfiff dauerte es eine Weile, bis die Birds ins Spiel fanden. Einige Knock-Ons zu Beginn liessen das Pack die Kraft des gegnerischen Scrums spüren. Ein Durchbruch von Emma Keller bescherte uns die ersten Punkte. Doch die Jurassierinnen gaben sich nicht geschlagen und machten bald darauf ihre erste Punkte. Rebekka Hosch legte den zweiten Versuch für die Birds nach einem gelungenen Switch Move. Die Kellerschwestern sorgten für drei weitere Tries, ein zweiter von Emma und zwei von Robin. Doch auch die Backs sorgten für Punkte. Auf dem eher kleinen Feld war es für sie nicht einfach, ihr Spiel aufzuziehen. Doch auch ihnen gelangen Durchbrüche. Mathilde Dreyer nutzte ihre Geschwindigkeit, um für die Birds zu punkten. Viola Jackman, Captain des Teams, auf dem Flügel spielend scorte in den letzten Minuten in typischer Forward-Manier. Erinnerungen an die frühere Positionen im Pack kamen wohl wieder auf.
Am Schluss stand es 32-12. Das Spiel war intensiv und hartumkämpft. Die Hitze trug das ihrige bei. Morgane Linge und Tonya sorgten dafür, dass die Spieler*innen immer gut hydriert blieben. Vielen Dank! Eine herzliche Gratulation an Emma Keller, welche verdient von Vertreter*innen des Nationalteam-Coaching-Staffs zur besten Spielerin des Spiels gewählt wurde.

After a long time the Birds were going to play a proper Rugby Union game with 15 players on the Swiss Finals day. In a state of nervous excitement the team took the train to Yverdon-les-Bains. Before they played themselves, the bird got into the mood for the game by watching the NLFA final between the Luzern Dangels and the Nyon Monthey Mermigans.
Hot temperatures and a young and fit team from the Jura were waiting for the Birds. After the kick-off it took a while for the players to find into the game. Some knock ons in beginning led to the first scrums where the Birds could first experience the strength of the opposition scrum. The first try for the Birds was scored by Emma Keller. It wasn’t her last. But the team from the Jura didn’t’ get discouraged and scored shortly after. After a well-executed switch, Rebekka Hosch scored the second try for the birds. The Keller sisters were our top scorers with the two tries mentioned before by Emma and another two by Robin. But also the backs gifted the Birds with some points. After Rebekka, Mathilde Dreyer showed her speed and was able to lay the ball down behind the try line. In the last minutes, our captain Viola Jackman playing on the wing scored in a typical forward manner. Maybe some memories of previous positions came up.
The final score was 32-12 for the Birds. The game was hard and intense. The heat did also its bit. Morgane Linge did a great job keeping the players hydrated. Thank you very much! Congratulations to Emma Keller who was selected as MVP by members of the Swiss national team coaching staff.
